Are “skinny jabs” making everyone bald? 👀

Hair shedding while taking weight-loss injections such as Mounjaro or Wegovy is something I’m hearing about more and more.

But here’s where it gets interesting…

We can’t simply say the injection is damaging the hair follicle.

Significant or rapid weight loss itself can trigger telogen effluvium, a temporary type of excessive shedding. Add in a big reduction in appetite, changes in nutritional intake and the physiological stress of losing a substantial amount of weight, and suddenly there’s a lot more going on than “Mounjaro made my hair fall out.”

And because hair is spectacularly unhelpful, the shedding often appears months after the original trigger.

That also doesn’t mean every person experiencing hair loss on a weight-loss injection has telogen effluvium. Female pattern hair loss, low iron, thyroid problems and other causes can exist alongside it or become more noticeable during weight loss.

So no, the “skinny jabs” aren’t simply making everyone bald.

But if your hair has started shedding since losing weight, don’t just panic, stop your prescribed medication or buy a cupboard full of supplements. Find out what’s actually happening first.

The injection is part of the history.
It isn’t automatically the diagnosis.
